Abstract:

“Poverty and seclusion” Is the first principle of the triple principles of the Jesuits. This principle is embodied in the textual-pictorial content of one of his well-known references, “Veridicus Christianus” (meaning “true Christian”), by humiliated and mocked the earth world and physical desires. It is possible to search the Jesuit seclusion -not only in "Christian doctrines" but also- in "neoplatonic philosophy". In the philosophy of Plotinus, the earth world has the lowest rank and dignity of the visible and invisible worlds, and it is far from its original source (“hen”, “The Alone”, “The One”, “The Unique” in the view of Plotinus) than other worlds. Therefore, the creatures of the earth world have innate tendency and rapture into the divine origin, and this rapture -and afterwards, ascending and joining to Logos- is possible by Passing of the body and the purification of the soul through austerity and the abandonment of worldly dependencies. The metaphorical image of the earth world in the book of "true Christian" is a crazy and seductive woman (Mundus) who, although as the neo-Platonist attitude, follows the act of universe, but with a lack of action, Misleads Human: The woman's seduction is an imperfect imitation of the attraction of “The One” and divine act of invisible universe (“Psukhe” (The All-Soul) in the view of Plotinus) in the ascending arc The mundus-woman's preference for material possessions is the result of a defect in his partaking of the Emanation of existence.
