Examining the Position of Meritocracy in Islam and Analyzing the Models of Competency Based on Islam
Nowadays, the importance and status of human resources is recognized as a competitive advantage in organizations. Therefore, organizations try to recruit qualified and competent managers and employees. Accurate identification of competency criteria and development of competency models are among the essential requirements of the meritocracy process. Several competency models have already been proposed by management experts; however, considering the fundamental and infrastructural differences between the views of Islamic management and Western management, it is necessary to set and present the criteria for competency based on the approach of the suprem goals of Islam and Islamic government. So far several studies have been conducted on the status of meritocracy in Islam and the development of Islamic-based competency models each of which has strengths, weaknesses, and differences. The present study is conducted to investigate these researches. After explaining meritocracy from the Islamic point of view, the paper uses the analytical method to analyze and review the competency models proposed in internal researches and provide scientific and practical solutions for researchers and executives.
