Foundation of Art Criticism in the Ninth Century (A.H)

In this article, logical and associate aspects of art in the ninth century are explored and the factors and courses leading to such association are scrutinized in order to identify and dissect the procedures of art criticism at work in this period. The ninth century takes various artistic directions. It is considered one of the key periods of art in Iran within which different forms of artistic courses like art criticism emerge and grow in different sides. Besides elevation of works of art in this period, art criticism also affects the taste, impression, imagination, and creativity of the artists and puts them through high action in the artistic sphere. Art criticism in this period is followed by intra-structural and extra-structural processes whose main expeditor, beyond the critic’s thought, is his Islamic ideology as he evaluates the works of art from this viewpoint as a dominant principle in the 9th century criticism of art. Hence, this article makes a survey of art criticism from different aspects and then identifies its latent and apparent evidences.
