Pollution from plastic waste in the oceans
Recent studies have shown that maritime transport in the long time (years) leads to the accumulation of plastic substrates in the center of the ocean basins. This means that plastic pollution is much easier to move between ocean layers and between the hemispheres than previously thought. The purpose of this study is to investigate the challenges facing plastic bags at sea and the existing rules and regulations and provide solutions. It is also a clear and understandable overview of current scientific knowledge and understanding of plastic pollution and how to combat it. This study focuses on three topics according to the literature review: sources, distribution and fate of plastic pollution in the ocean; effects of marine pollution on marine ecosystem and environmental and human health, analysis of proposed measures to eliminate plastic pollution in the ocean. The results show that there are many possible solutions to the problem. Combining law and increasing environmental knowledge through education seems to be the best solution to such environmental problems. Direct action on the source of contamination is still the most effective method. Daily reduction of plastic consumption is something that everyone can do separately. Limiting plastic consumption protects the oceans. Adopting existing techniques to reduce plastic waste to reduce ocean pollution in three ways: reduction, collection, recycling and disposal is one of the most important preventive actions.
