Abstract:
Sheikh Farīd ud-Dīn Attar Neishabouri is well known as one of the great Persian poets. Due to the importance of his works and poems, many studies have been conducted on his works, circumstances, and thoughts. In this regard, the introduction and the critical review of those studies seem to be fundamental in the field of Attar studies. In this paper, an attempt has been made to critically investigate the studies conducted on Attar and his works from a comparative viewpoint, and then the strengths and weaknesses of these studies are determined. The research is based on thirty-four studies related to Attar studies in the field of comparative literature. Some important shortcomings are detected such as the lack of methodology in research and scientific structure of studies, the lack of scientific care and details, existence of repetitive issues, no attention to similarities, no attention to their motives, ignoring differences, no specification of the exact impacts on one another, ignoring new theories and incomplete familiarity with them.
