Study of effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy on the psychological well-being increasing in patients with multiple sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive CNS disease that is characterized and identified by the destruction of myelin sheath. Considering the psychological symptoms and early intervention can be effective in rehabilitation and improvement of life quality. This research was conducted to aim study of the effectiveness of compassion -focused therapy on increasing psychological well-being in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) in Isfahan city in a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and follow- up with control group. 24 refering to a clinics of brain and neurology select using purposine sampling method and were randomly assigned to experimental (n = 12) and control groups (n = 12). The experimental group participsnts received 8 sessions (every session 90 minutes) of compassion-focused therapy and control group participants did not receive any intervention, and finally, both groups were re-evaluated. The participants were assessed in Psychological Well-being Inventory (Ryff & Singer). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measurements. The findings showed that has been increased psychologicawell-being the participants in the experimental group compared to the control group. In whole, a compassion focused therapy can increase psychological well-being in these patients and this therapeutic intervention is justifiable on Iranian population.
