A Comparative Study of Saudi and Iranian Foreign Policy in the Syrian Crisis
How the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran reacts to the Syrian crisis and examines the impact that this crisis can have on these two countries can be hypothesized with the hypothesis that the Islamic Republic of Iran has defined its foreign policy in support of Bashar al-Assad's government. While Saudi Arabia seeks to support the opposition to overthrow Bashar al-Assad. Accordingly, the survival of Bashar al-Assad as a strategic ally of the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the important goals of Iran in the region. The findings show that Saudi Arabia and Iran are two influential regional actors that have pursued their foreign policies, one in support of Assad's opponents and the other in support of the Assad regime.In this game, they confront each other to the extent that Saudi Arabia sees its future interests in the Middle East in the absence of Bashar al-Assad, far from Iranian hegemony, and to achieve its goals, it proposes a suitable alternative government to Bashar al-Assad. Tehran, with the support of Bashar al-Assad, calls Saudi Arabia a loser in this game.
