Predicting Mental Health Based on Social Adjustment and Happiness in Quran Memorizers
Considering the importance of mental health in the Islamic society and honoring the memorizers of the Qur'an in Islamic verses and hadiths, the aim of this study is to predict mental health based on social adjustment and happiness in the memorizers of the Qur'an.
The present study is a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included all memorizers aged 20-35 years in Tehran in 2020 who had memorized one to thirty parts of the Quran. Of these, 375 individuals were selected using multi-stage cluster random sampling method and responded to the Oxford Happiness, SCL-25 Mental Health and Bell Social Adjustment Questionnaires via social media (Telegram and WhatsApp).
Using stepwise regression showed that social adjustment and happiness were able to predict the mental health of Quran memorizers and in total predicted about 36% of their mental health variance at the level
From the results of the present study, it can be concluded that in addition to improving mental health, by memorizing the Holy Quran it is possible to use therapeutic approaches to increase happiness such as a positive attitude or spiritual therapy in accordance with Islamic standards to increase social adjustment and reduce the mental health problems of people in the community.
