Selection of Khark Island as a Place of Exile in the 1950s and 1960s
The 1950s and 1960s were politically turbulent years in the history of Iran, during which a wide range of political activists, mainly the members of the Tudeh communist party were prosecuted, jailed, and eventually sent to Exile. Many of such convicts were sent to Khark Island to spend their years of exile. This paper explores why Khark was chosen by the government as an exile place.

Because of being an island in the Persian Gulf and the unfavorable climatic constraints, Khark has been a place of exile in previous times.
