The Study of the Effectiveness of Seligman’s Happiness Training on Happiness, Life Satisfaction and General Health of Parents of First Grade Elementary School Children and Depression in Their Children
Parental health and their satisfaction play a very important role in the raising of happy and successful children. Parents' happiness can lead the family and children to a joy. The purpose of present study was to investigate the effectiveness of Seligman’s happiness training on happiness, life satisfaction and general health of parents of first grade elementary school children and depression in their children. The statistical population of this research consists of all elementary students of Shahr-e-kord city. In this research, Fatemiyeh School was randomly selected and then depression questionnaires were distributed among them. Among the students whose depression was a standard deviation higher than the mean, 40 people were selected and then their parents were called and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups, each group includes 20 people, then the experimental group was trained under the Seligman Happiness training. The training sessions of these subjects were arranged in 6 sessions of 90 minutes. After the end of the training period, both the experimental and control groups performed the questionnaires again. Finally, the collected data were analyzed by SPSS software using multivariate covariance test. The results of data analysis showed that Seligman’s happiness training have an effect on increasing the happiness scores (p = 0.01), life satisfaction (p <0.01), general health (p <0.01) and Children depression (p = 0.01). training happiness to parents with depressed children, can increase their happiness, life satisfaction and their general health and also reduce the rate of depression in children.
