Abstract:
Background and Aim

Professional ethics is of great value in all majors especially medicine, but unfortunately it is not paid enough attention during studying, also the behavior of students and workers in clinical settings shows multiple cases of disrespecting professional ethics. Regardi ng the importance of professional ethics in medicine and paramedics, the present article addresses the teaching methods of professional ethics in Iran.

Materials and Methods

The present review has been done using three - phase search strategy with the follo wing keywords: " medical ethics " , " nursing ethics " , " professional ethics " , " ethical codes " , education in Magiran, Iranmedex, Sid, Googlescholar databases. Published articles by Iranians which address the outcome of a special method to teach professional eth ics to students or workers in medicine or paramedic majors were included in the study. Ethical Considerations: Ethics were considered in all phases of the present study including data gathering and analysis, documentation, and publication.

Findings

Acquir ed articles in this review were rare but involved different methods to teach professional ethics including lecture, narrative ethics, case based, Jurisprudential inquiry, role playing, ... the findings indicate the effectiveness of those methods in teaching professional ethics. Among those methods, lecture was the most common one, multiple researches used lecture method, others compare lecture to other methods and other ones used newer methods and advised using new and creative methods in teaching ethics.

Conclusion

Teaching professional ethics is of great value in medicine and paramedics regardless to the special teaching method, according to the current conditions in hospitals and medical centers in Iran, it is advised to apply suitable teaching methods reg arding the learning environment, available equipment, and learners’ properties.
