Abstract:

In order to identify the inconsistencies, differences, shortcomings, strengths, and weaknesses of the package of the intended curriculum for the first three grades in the subject of Farsi language a series of interviews with the field’s experts were conducted and the content of the package, consisting of reading and writing textbooks and teachers’ guide, analyzed using five areas of emphasis: Basic principles and goals, content features, teaching method and approach, learning situations and activities, and finally learning assessment. The findings reveal shortcomings and weaknesses right across all five areas of emphasis. The approach needs to be reviewed. Curriculum guide and the lessons designed need to be based on sound theoretical foundations and language teaching experiences from a global perspective. Need assessments and pathological studies, as well as consideration of past experiences and taking an experimental approach are necessary before the curriculum’s national implementation.
