Abstract:

With the extension of the mechanical life and the daily increase of traffic rate in the cities and roads within the recent century and in contrast to the economical and welfare benefits due to the development of communication and the transfer of passengers and goods, there is a drastic increase in the number and the intensity of the daily accidents. Financial and health losses are consequently caused by these accidents which impose more problems on the societies. Thus, this research intends to determine the contribution of each factor to the regional accidents (Tabriz Basij Highway) doing spatial analysis using the geographical information system (GIS). The results show that the loss of pedestrian crossing level between the Exchange Bridge and Basij square and also the loss of speed cameras for controlling the speed of cars are among the main factors which result in highway accidents along Basij highway. Thus, it is suggested the findings of this study be applied in order to find a suitable solution for solving the current problem
