Investigating the factors affecting the social exclusion of gypsies in Babol city

Background and Purpose:

Social exclusion in any society is undoubtedly a direct product of the low social capital of the people in that society. Because if a community does not have a sense of cooperation, partnership and interaction with each other, they will never be able to communicate with each other and their social life will be difficult. Since the social exclusion of the Roma minority in the city of Babylon has led to strife and violence between the minority and the majority, and this has hindered the interaction between them, it is important to address the issue of social exclusion in the city of Babylon.The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the social exclusion of gypsies in the city of Babel and in terms of practical purpose.

Research method :

In terms of collection method, the data is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of the study is the residents of Babol that 384 people were selected using Cochran's formula by multi-stage cluster sampling. Data were collected through the standard Bogardos Social Distance Questionnaire (1935), the Onyx and Bolen Social Capital Questionnaire (2000) and the researcher-made Social Exclusion Questionnaire. Content validity was also confirmed by supervisors and social science experts.

Findings :

Cronbach's alpha was used to confirm the reliability of the questionnaire. The obtained values of social capital (84%), social exclusion (78%) and social distance (75%) showed the reliability of the questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by Pearson correlation, regression and path analysis using SPSS software.

Findings indicate that factors such as social distance, social capital and education level of the inhabitants of Babylon affect the social exclusion of the city's gypsies.
