Determining the Difference between the Effectiveness of Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) Education and Self-Compassion-Based Mindfulness on Nurses' Anxiety in the Covid-19 Epidemic

Abstract:
Introduction

Corona virus 2019 (COVID-19) is mostly transmitted through respiratory droplets. One of the ways to deal with this disease is through occupational exposure, and thus a large number of people are susceptible to this disease due to their jobs. Nurses are at the forefront of health care during the COVID-19 epidemic. There is no information about the level of resilience and factors affecting nurses' health anxiety in the critical situation of this occupational group. The aim of this study was to determine the difference between the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy (MCT) education and self-compassion-based mindfulness on nurses' anxiety in the Covid-19 epidemic.

Method

The design of the present study was a quasi-experimental design of pretest-posttest design with non-equivalent control group with quarterly follow-up. The statistical population of the present study was all nurses of Shahriar Social Security Hospital in 1300-1400. 60 nurses were selected and randomly substituted in three groups. Which includes: 20 people for metacognition-based training program, 20 people for compassion-based mindfulness training program and 20 people for control group. The data collection tool was the Health Anxiety Questionnaire (Salkowski et al., 2002). Data analysis was combined using repeated measures analysis test.

Results

Overall, the results showed that metacognitive therapy (MCT) training and self-compassion-based mindfulness have an effect on nurses' anxiety in the Covid-19 epidemic and the effect of both methods has been stable compared to the pre-test stage.. And no significant difference was observed between the two intervention groups in effectiveness.

Conclusion

By comparing the two types of metacognitive therapy and cognitive therapy based on the presence of mind and compassion and group therapy of people suffering from anxiety due to coronavirus, there was innovation and a kind of initiative. Therefore, comparing these two therapies in different mental disorders Which will be useful for a range of disorders.
