Predicting students' academic motivation based on identity styles and psychological well-being

Abstract:
Background and Aim

Motivation and desire in terms of education is the starting point of activities, but whether it is desirable or not is also affected by identity styles and psychological well-being of individuals. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of predicting students' academic motivation based on identity styles and psychological well-being.

Method

In this descriptive-correlational study, 383 undergraduate students of Hamadan Azad University participated in the present study online through available sampling method and through virtual classes and were given questionnaires (Reef Psychological Welfare (2002), Brzonsky (2000) Identity Styles Questionnaire and Walland (2001) Academic Motivation Questionnaire answered that Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used to obtain their reliability, the values ​​of which were 0.92, 0.82 and 87, respectively. This method was selected according to the traffic restriction when the corona risk became serious.Then to test the hypotheses from descriptive and inferential statistical indicators such as mean, percentage, Kalmogorov-Smirnov test, multiple regression test and analysis of variance in SPSS software environment is used.

Results

The results showed; The components of information identity styles, normative identity style and commitment identity style have a positive and significant relationship with students' academic motivation. But there is a significant negative relationship between the component of confused / avoidant identity style and academic motivation. There is also a positive and significant relationship between the components of psychological well-being and academic motivation. The findings therefore clarified; Identity and psychological well-being styles are able to predict students' academic motivation.

Conclusion

Therefore, in order to increase the psychological well-being of students, we should take action to strengthen the emotional regulation variable to increase their psychological well-being, which is in the shadow of planning to teach and strengthen students' emotional regulation and academic motivation in previous schools. It will be possible to enter the university.
