Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between decision-making styles and happiness with the mediating role of lifestyle in female adolescents. The present study was a cross-sectional analytical study. The present study was a cross-sectional study. The statistical population in this study included all-female high school students (ninth to eleventh grades) in Tehran in the academic year 2019-2020. 360 students participated in convenience sampling and were assigned to the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) (Hills and Argyle, 2002), the second version of the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP-II) (Walker et al., 1987), and the General Decision Making Questionnaire (GDMS) (Scott and Bruce, 1995) responded. Data analysis was performed by the structural equation modeling (SEM) method. The results showed that the proposed model had a good fit. The results showed that happiness with decision-making styles such as avoidant (r=-0.57, P=0.001), dependent (r=-0.60, P=0.001) and spontaneous (r=-0.69, P=0.001) has a negative and significant correlation; But in contrast to rational decision-making styles (r=0.59, P=0.001), intuitive (r=0.57, P=0.001) and lifestyle components, nutrition (r=0.50, P=0.001), exercise (r=0.38, P=0.001), responsibility (r=0.43, P=0.001), stress management (r=0.39, P=0.001) interpersonal relationships (r=0.53, P=0.001) and self-actualization (r=0.36 P=0.001) have a positive and significant correlation with happiness (P <0.05). Also, the results of the Bootstrap test showed that the path coefficients of instant decision styles (-0.067, P=0.001), avoidance (-0.052, P=0.001), dependent (-0.046, P=0.001), rational (0.058, P=0.001) and intuitive (0.061, P=0.001) with a mediating role of lifestyle have an indirect and significant effect on happiness (P <0.05). Consistent rational and intuitive decision-making styles directly, as well as through a health-oriented lifestyle, can lead to happiness in female adolescents, but in contrast, instant, avoidance and dependent maladaptive decision-making styles have the opposite effect.
