Women's Independence and Property Right in Islam and the Judo-Christian Tradition

Author(s):
Abstract:
This piece is a part of Sherīf Abdel Azeem’s work, “Women in Islam and the Judo-Christian Tradition: Myth or Reality”, which is a comparative study of issues concerning women in revealed religions, that is, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The author intends to respond to some misconceptions about the attitude of Islam towards women in the West and particularly to the Egyptian feminist, Naval Sacdāvī, who argues that religions have put some restrictions on women, disregarded them, and discriminated against them. The author argues that his comparative study establishes the truth of Islam as the final revealed religion. But the author’s compares and remarks are based on the Mosaic Law and the Bible. According to Muslim belief, these revealed books have been distorted and as a result of this, some of the author’s considerations and remarks based on them may be different.
