Abstract:
Background and Aim

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness based stress reduction training on enduring helplessness, failure and anger control in women with high blood pressure.

Materials and Methods

The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test design, post-test with control group. The statistical population consists of all women with hypertension referred to Farshchian Cardiovascular Clinic in Hamadan. Using available sampling method, 30 women with hypertension were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups.Experiments and controls (15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group) were replaced. The experimental group received 8 sessions of 120 minutes of mindfulness-based stress reduction training, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The Simmons and Gaher (2005) Helplessness Tolerance Questionnaire, the Harrington Failure Tolerance Standard Questionnaire (2005) and the Spielberger Anger Control Questionnaire (STAXI-2) (1996-1999) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods such as mean and standard deviation, Kalmogorov-Smirnov and multivariate analysis of covariance.

Results

The study data were reviewed for 30 women with hypertension in experimental and control groups with a mean age of 36.26 and 47.5, respectively. The results showed that mindfulness-based stress reduction methods were able to increase the rate of helplessness tolerance, failure tolerance and anger control in women with high blood pressure (P <0.05).
