A Study of Sermons 27 and 34 of NahjulBalagha Based on the Theory of John Searle
Speech or action is an important aspect of the pragmatics of language that was first proposed by Austin and later developed by John Searle into five categories. The basis of Searle's theory of speech or speech action is based on the fact that verb and sentence maps can be divided into five categories: expressive, emotional, persuasive, obligatory and declarative action. The use of approaches such as speech action theory allows the researcher to look at his / her research problem from different angles and explore the invisible angles of the text. In this paper, using descriptiveanalytical method, sermons 27 and 34 based on John Searle's linguistic theory are examined. The study of the frequency of utterances in the mentioned sermons shows that most of the actions in the two sermons are expressed directly in the form of spokendeclarative action, but the issue that leads to a better understanding of the meaning of the Prophet's words and the depth of the two sermons is indirect verbal action. The form of action is persuasive, emotional, obligatory and declarative. Therefore, what helps the audience to achieve the thematic verb in speech is to pay attention to the situational context and the words of the speaker.
