INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STRATEGIES FOR COPING WITH NURSES’ STRESS AND PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT IN TEHRAN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES HOSPITALS IN 2021, TEHRAN, IRAN
The work pressure and frequent exposure of nurses to painful and excruciating conditions of patients in the workplace can lead to stressin them.Considering that perceived organizational support can be a strong factor in controlling stressful situations, this study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between nurses;#39 stress coping strategies and perceived organizational support in Tehran University of Medical Sciences hospitals.
This cross-sectional analytical study was performed on 607 nurses working in hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2021. Sampling was done in a stratified manner and by proportional assignment. Data was collected using a demographic questionnaire, perceived organizational support, and coping with stressful situations, and then analyzed using SPSS software version 22 and descriptive and inferential statistical tests.
The findings of this study showed that perceived organizational support was 2.16 ± 1.19 and coping with stressful situations was 2.77 ± 0.38. Spearman;#39s correlation test showed that there was direct but not significant relationship between coping with stressful situations and perceived organizational support in the nurses (P=0.134).
It seems that nurses are more exposed to stress due to facing hospital’s stressful environment. Therefore, it seems necessary to prepare low stressful situations for nurses by planning and presenting suitable policies.
