Monitoring of Management Practices and Hydrological Response in the Representative and Paired Watersheds of Iran-Part one
The early 20th century has been unique because of the initiation of paired watersheds (PWs) research in several world regions. So that, between 1930 and 1970, there was a significant expansion in the setting up PWs. They are currently being used for management and conservation objectives due to their special potential and appropriate research facilities. Undoubtedly, without having comparative data from the PWs approach, it is difficult to determine the cause-and-effect relationships of environmental changes and the magnitude of their impacts in some specific conditions. However, a review of experiments from PWs worldwide has been done by various researchers, unfortunately, due to the prevalence of publishing domestic articles in the Persian language, the review of studies on PWs has been neglected from the point of view of international review studies. Based on this, this article aims to express the function and introduction of representative and paired watersheds, as well as a general analysis of the studies conducted in the field of various monitoring indicators of management practices and hydrological response. The analysis of the results obtained from the study of the assessment indicators showed three main categories of hydrology, chemical, and biophysical. The hydrological and chemical indicators have the highest and lowest frequency of studies, respectively.
