Application of aeromagnetic data in the identification of structural faults, hidden faults and seismic source: A case study of Ramsar city
The study area is located in the central Alborz region, 36.5 to 37 north latitude and 50 to 51 east longitude of the Greenwich meridian. The objectives of this study is to identify the structural lineaments in the study area, using aerial magnetic data and investigate the tectonic relationship of magnetic lineaments with hidden faults. Aerial photographs, satellite images, existing maps including topographic maps and geological maps were studied to determine the main structures. The location of the previously identified faults was reviewed and using aerial geophysical maps, the structural lineaments of the area were visually extracted using the Geosoft software version 1.1 Oasis montaj 4.1 (Geosoft). The maps of magnetic lineaments, and the maps of the magnetic stress nodes were matched Using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and the overlap method, the maps of the surface epicenter. Two methods of combination and analysis of magnetic stress nodes and magnetic lineaments were used for identify the hidden faults in the region. The location of the lines or linear zones that common to all three maps indicates the location of new surface faults and old faults, and the rest of the lines are hidden faults. Based on this, structural hazards, hidden faults and seismic springs were identified.
