Gīlakī Dialect of Langarūd

Abstract:

Iranian languages and dialects are facing many challenges these days and therefore, they have lost some of their ancient characteristics. Gīlakī is one of the North-Western Iranian languages that has a variety of dialects. Langarūdī is one of the Gīlakī dialects that is spoken in the city of Langarūd and its outlaying regions. This dialect is one of the Eastern dialects of Gīlakī and is different from Western and Central Gīlakī. This article aims to investigate the general aspects of Langarūdī dialect. General phonetic issues (number of vowels, consonants, and syllables), morphology (internal structure of nouns and verbs and the structural features of verbal forms, including constructions such as past perfect (impossible) tense, and the simple past tense), and general syntactic and lexical aspects of this Langarūdī are discussed in this article. The influence of Persian on Langarūdī along with the influence of the Arabic language on its vocabulary are evident in lexicon and semantics of this dialect.
