Numerical Modeling of Flow and Bed Load Transport Using Roe Method

Abstract:
In the present study, the two-dimensional finite volume model of flow and bed load transport has been developed. The governing equations consist of shallow water equations and Exner equation. The Exner equation is based on the depth-averaged shallow water equations and bed load transport flow-sediment interaction parameter that acts as a calibration factor. In addition, The Grass model is employed to calculate sediment discharge. The governing equations are solved using a fully coupled method. The Roe method is selected to compute the intercell fluxes on quadrilateral networks. The Roe approximate Riemann solver is a first-order scheme. Finally the performance of the present model is evaluated. The results of the present model are compared with the exact solutions, and other available numerical results in one-dimensional and two-dimensional tests. Results show that the present model is appropriate, and capable of modeling the mobile beds.
