Comparative Study of the Components of Emotional Intelligence Based on Islamic Sources
Emotional intelligence is a fundamental element of human behavior that operates independent of cognitive intelligence. This type of intelligence, by making a balance between emotions and ration, can guide a human to reach the highest success. The purpose of the present study is to extract the components of emotional intelligence from Islamic resources. The research method is qualitative and content analysis type and the statistical resources are Islamic references including The Qur’an, Nahj al-Balāghah, and Islamic narration books. The results of the present study showed that the components of emotional intelligence had existed in Islamic instructions centuries before they were mentioned in psychology. In fact, Islam by presenting some educational and ethical guidelines such as self-knowledge, modesty, restraining anger, serenity, geniality, Sharh-e Sadr (open-heartedness), self-management, moderation, keeping one’s dignity and tongue, flexibility, and well-being, has attempted to educate believers to have high emotional intelligence.
