Abstract:

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is transmitted by the bite of the sand fly, and this disease causes skin wounds in the places where the sand fly bites; unfortunately, the scar caused by it remains for life in most cases, and drug resistance to this parasite is one of the major problems. It is hygienic. This research investigates the anti-leishmanial effect of lavender extract against Leishmania major in vivo and in vitro environments. Leishmania protozoan prepared from laboratory mice infected with this parasite was injected into the base of the tail of 50 Balb/c mice. The mice were divided into five groups and treated with solutions prepared with three concentrations (0.1, 0.01, and 0.001 percent) of lavender extract for five weeks. The treatment and measurement of wounds were done during the treatment period. After comparing the results with the control group and statistical analysis using software (SPSS, 19), a one-way analysis of variance and non-parametric test were used and the significance level was (p<0.05), which indicated the significance of the research. The effective concentration of lavender ethanolic extract with an anti-leishmanial effect in the in vivo medium is 0.1% in sterile distilled water. In the culture medium (external), 0.1% and 0.01% concentrations are tested in the first 15 and 60 minutes. It indicates the concentration of time-dependent lethality and the high anti-leishmanial potency of lavender extract. According to the results obtained from this study and the difference between the concentrations of the extract that healed the wounds in a certain period, it can be concluded that the consumption of this plant is effective in healing the wounds caused by cutaneous leishmaniasis. It can be used after further investigations of this plant and used to treat this condition.
