Abstract:
Narrative time has fundamental differences with real and linear time and brings out aot of freedoms for humans. The narrator by different manipulation methodskeeps control of time while in the real world humans are subject to a linear time. The methods of manipulation in narrative time are divided into three major categories and genres: order, duration and frequency. Time duration, which is the main subject of this article, is defined by distinguishing and examining the relation between story duration and narrative duration. The ratio of narrative and story time duration in a work can be expressed in three general ways: reduction, increase and semmetrical. These three refer to four main genres: omission, brief, scene and hasitent. The narrator manipulates narrative time by means of these four duration genres to convey meaning more beautifully and effectively. This article examines the role of these four genres in speed, acceleration, rhythm of the narration and its impact on sense making.
