Abstract:
Undoubtedly, traditionalism is one of the most important approaches in dealing with Islamic art. Burckhardt, Nasr, Lings and Michon are the traditionalists who have written some of their writings about Islamic art. But between them, the role of the first two characters is more. Burckhardt and Nasr agree with each other in various intellectual foundations such as anthropology, ontology, epistemology, criticism of modernity, defending tradition, and the theory of the transcendental unity of religions. Now, what is the relationship between them in the foundations of Islamic art? Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to compare the views of Burkhardt and Nasr in realm of foundations of islamic art, so as to achieve a deeper understanding of them. The results of this research indicate that based on Genet's theory of transtextuality, Nasr's works can be considered influenced by Burckhardt's works from different aspects. The research is conducted based on library sources, using analytical- descriptive method.
