Effectiveness of cognitive behavioral intervention on psychological distress in women with breast cancer

The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral intervention on psychological distress in women with breast cancer.

The statistical population of this research includes all women with breast cancer in Tehran city who have referred to counseling centers in Tehran city for counseling and psychological services. 30 of these people who met the criteria for entering the research were selected by available sampling method and were replaced by random lottery type and equally in experimental and control groups. People in the experimental group were subjected to cognitive behavioral intervention during 9 sessions of 90 minutes, and the control group was waiting for the same. The main data of this research was obtained using the psychological distress scale of Lubyand (1995).

Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (multivariate covariance analysis) were used in data analysis.

The results of the research indicated that cognitive behavioral intervention is effective on psychological distress in women with breast cancer in Tehran. Therefore, the results of this research show the necessity of using psychological treatments along with common drug treatments for patients.
