Halal beekeeping from perspective of Islamic jurisprudence

Beekeeping as a useful and profitable occupation is of importance in Islamic schools of jurisprudence. There are conditions and rules for beekeeping in Islam. The purpose of this research is to investigate beekeeping from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence.

This research was conducted by a descriptive analytic method using Quran and Hadiths and jurisprudential texts of Islamic jurisprudential religions.

It seems that according to the Islamic jurisprudential viewpoints, Quran, and Hadiths, honey bee is riches, and its wealth and ownership is envisioned. Therefore, it can be transferred to others by selling or renting. Other than the observance of sharia rules in beekeeping, its transactions must be done based on sharia rules. As a creature, bee has right to life and its killing is condemned. Moreover, some of its honey should be stored within the hive for its consumption in winter. Some of Islamic jurisprudents stated that bee must be fed by Halal herbs that indicates strictness and importance of Halal beekeeping. Observance of beekeeping rules and bee rights is contributed to physical and mental health because honey, especially its natural type, has many healing and useful properties. In conclusion, beekeeping is important among Muslims due to its economic benefit and positive effect on mental health.
