Abstract:
Ferdowsi's Shahnameh is the greatest national epic of Iran which is a difficult and elusive text despite its simple and definable surface structure. Therefore, in spite of various comments and independent articles in determining some of its ambiguities, the record of many couplets is still doubtful and commentators report on some of the couplets doesn’t seem acceptable. In this study, the authors, by analyzing some verses of the Shahnameh edited by Jalal Khaleghi Motlagh, found that inadequacies and ambiguities are seen in the interpretations of some couplets which are either due to insufficient attention to the texture or due to incorrect record of the couplet. Therefore, in this study an attempt has been made to suggest a more appropriate comment either by critically analyzing the record of a few couplets or   criticizing the reports presented on some couplets to provide a more appropriate interpretation by using more authentic and reliable sources.
