Challenges of non-invasive ventilation in patients with respiratory failure

Non-invasive ventilation with positive pressure is known as one of the main pillars in the management of patients with acute and chronic respiratory failure, which can be used at home and in hospital intensive care units. The purpose of this study is to address the challenges related to non-invasive ventilation in patients with respiratory failure.

 The present article is a systematic review study using systematic search in databases, SID, Magiran, Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar search engine with keywords "mechanical ventilation", "non-invasive ventilation", " Respiratory failure was performed.

Problems and complications such as skin damage, discomfort and mask intolerance in some patients, high failure rate if this method is not used correctly, as well as the possibility of spreading and transferring contamination to health workers.

Non-invasive ventilation in patients will have the best effect when it is used according to the patient's condition at the right time, with the appropriate equipment, connections and settings of the device and by skilled and trained personnel. Monitoring and continuous monitoring of the patient's clinical condition under non-invasive ventilation is one of the principles of the success of this ventilation support method. It is also recommended that medical workers use appropriate personal protective equipment while using this treatment method.
