A comparative look at the position of the mosque in the Iranian cinema
Holy sites have a special sanctuary in cinema; for example churches or mosques; they each assign functions to themselves. To focus on this position can be counted as a relevant research field (in both cinematically and historical background of these holy sites). Although mosques are a place to worship and pray, but in Iranian cinematographic films, they have different functions in various fields like devotional, social or even sometimes economical. The aim of this research is to demonstrate what are the artistic features of mosques in Iranian movies and what social functions do they have? Besides these, it is also important to pay attention to the appearance and physics of these places. For example although it has a well-known identity in the point of exterior and interior architectural view, which has had a tune of change throughout time, but its functionality still stands with saving the primary philosophy. This meaning is other than the functions that were mostly social in nature and changed later on. This comparative research has been carried out by both survey and descriptive-analytical methods & has examined the cinematographic works from this point of view, in two periods before and after the Islamic revolution in Iran. In the examined examples of movies, the key works of both periods have been selected. The main question is: How can we study or examine the physical & functional capacities of mosques in Iranian cinema and achieve a comprehensive and correct analysis in this regard.
