Abstract:
In marine navigation software, it is very important to determine the floating speed in turbulent weather. This study implements six methods of determining the speed loss of ships due to collision with waves in the Python programming environment and tries to identify the most suitable parameterization to be used in the weather routing algorithm. The six methodologies are: the methods of Bodewich, Artesen, Kwon, Tso Wecheng, Weng and Sha and Liu; In order to complete this analysis and compare the investigation methods, the features related to the seafaring situation, such as the magnitude of the height or the direction of the waves, as well as the inherent coordinates of the ship, are analyzed. By taking into account the different sailing conditions and matching them on the selected vessel, the effect of the ship's speed loss due to the presence of waves is investigated through the implementation of the aforementioned six methods. In the end, from the obtained results, it was determined that Artesen and Wang's method provided the best parameterization regarding loss and speed reduction, and it was also determined what the differences between these methods and other methods are when they are applied to a vessel.
