Design and Fabrication of Microstrip Antenna with DGS Structure for UWB Application
In this paper, a small antenna with two ports based on ultra-wideband technology for communication applications is introduced. The proposed antenna is of monopole type and has U-shaped parts on the patch and an incomplete ground plane, which controls the radiation between the two ports by using a stop band to match the impedance in a wider bandwidth range (from 4 to 12.1 GHz). This monopole UWB antenna is reconstructed horizontally with a spacing of less than a quarter wavelength at 4 GHz to create a UWB multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna with dimensions of 25×38 ×1.6 mm3. In the UWB MIMO antenna, the antenna performance is improved by placing a rectangular patch with a U-shaped slot and variations in the ground surface. The modified ground plate also acts as an isolation structure, providing isolation below 21 dB at the operating frequency of 13.5-5 GHz. Also, the simulation and measurement results of the proposed antenna design, which is designed in the HFSS simulation software, are opposite: ECC <0.002, TARC <-10 dB, CCL <0.3 bps/Hz, Diversity Gain=10, and MEG < 3 dB is provided for it. The simulation and measurement results demonstrate the precise design and proper fabrication, making this antenna a promising design proposal for microwave imaging and UWB applications.
