China on the Path of Science and Progress
Over the past five decades, China has undergone a remarkable transformation in the scientific domain, evolving from a country with a negligible share in global scientific output to becoming the world's leading power in this field. In 1975, China had registered only 72 scientific articles in the Scopus database, with its global share close to zero, while the United States held the top position with a 23.6% global share. However, over time, China has achieved an unprecedented leap in scientific production through extensive investment in research and development, the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, and the strengthening of international collaborations. By 2024, China leads the world with a 28.4% global share of scientific articles, while the United States holds second place with a 17.6% share. China has also become a global innovation leader by attracting domestic and international talent, implementing programs like the "Thousand Talents Plan" to bring in top global scientists and repatriate Chinese experts, and developing advanced scientific infrastructure such as supercomputers and sophisticated telescopes. The country has invested heavily in various fields, including artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and renewable energy, and has achieved significant progress through strong university-industry collaborations. Additionally, by enhancing its educational and research infrastructure through initiatives like Projects 211, 985, and the Double First Class Plan, China has elevated the quality of its higher education and positioned several of its universities among the top global rankings. Focusing on innovation and international cooperation, China aims to maintain and strengthen its position as a leading global scientific power. With massive investments in research and development and the advancement of cutting-edge technologies, China is rapidly emerging as a global leader in science and technology. At the same time, through programs like the "One Belt One Road" China seeks to expand its scientific and economic influence worldwide. These developments demonstrate that, by relying on science and technology, China is swiftly becoming a dominant global power.
