Survey on Relationship between the Food Habits and Body Mass Index in High School Girls

Abstract:
Background and
Purpose
In order to evaluate relation between food habit and BMI, 834 high school girls in Mashhad were chosen by cluster sampling in the year 1377. The student’s mean age was 16.1 (15-17 years). The dietary intake were evaluated by 24-hour Recall.
Method
in 3 days After matching average of intake and Consumption energy daily (+-100 Kcal) selected 378 students.The rate of energy and percentage protein, carbohydrate, fat intake were determined by computer (food frequency).also measured Weight and height of samples. Then asked them about food habit.
Findings
Results showed a significant difference between family size and BMI (p =.047) between socio-economical class and BMI (p =.0001), between average percentage Protein in diet and BMI (p=.0001), between gases beverage, dairy daily and BMI (p=.002) but no significant difference between consumption fruit, vegetable daily and BMI.
Conclusion
This study emphasizes the need for educational program in schools specially teenager girls because incorrect behavior and dietary imbalance damage their health and decrease quality of life.
