Evaluation of Absorption-Refrigeration Cycle and Introduction of a New refrigerant -Absorbent for Air Conditioning in an Automobile

The refrigeration cycles currently are used in road transport vehicles are predominantly the vapor compression refrigeration cycles. In such a unit, the compressor requires an input of energy in the form of work. Although in smaller systems, the compressor can be belt driven from the main propulsion engine. As we know a compressor is a highly energy consumer and expensive equipment. On the other hand, owing to two reasons, absorption – refrigeration cycle has been used mostly in large industrial scales. The first is the availability of a cheap source of heat to implement the process. The next refers to particular known couples of refrigerant – absorbent that are poisonous, best exemplified by ammonia – water systems. According to the first case, in this work we have tried to evaluate the installation of a low capacity air conditioner of this type in an ordinary automobile in order to reduce the fuel consumption and also limitation of wear of moving parts of the engine (because of compressor load) by using the waste heat produced from exhaust gas exiting from the combustion chamber. Also in the present research, capability of a new couple of refrigerant – absorbent having required properties to do the same work without any previous deficiencies to rectify the second problem was discussed, and operative condition such as; effect of maximum and minimum pressure, mass flow rate of refrigerant, generator and absorber temperature by UNICUAQ model on the cycle operation were taken into consideration.
