Investigation of turbulent modeling effect on finite volume solution of depth average equations for inflow from a channel side branch

Abstract:
In this work, NASIR software was used for investigating the effect of turbulent modelingon two-dimensional modeling of sub-critical shallow water flow in channels with inflowfrom a side channel. The version of the software utilized in this work, uses vertex-basefinite volume method for solution of SWE on unstructured triangular meshes. Thesoftware is used for examining zero, constant and algebraic eddy viscosity turbulentmodels for modeling the flow parameters. For this purpose, a number of test cases withvarious geometrical and flow characteristics were selected, for which experimentalmeasurements were reported. In these cases, both zero slope main and side branchchannels had rectangular cross sections. The computational results were compared withthe laboratory measurements of some particular parameters. In order to provide betterunderstanding, the results of computer simulations are presented in the form of streamtraces.
