The Origins of Salt Plug Formation in Iran
Author(s):
Abstract:
Diapir in fact has a Greek origin meaning “hole making” or drilling a hole. This word has been explained by Marazec in /9/5 (Ramberg, /98/). Diapirism means a process in which some materials move upwards due to lower density from underneath and finally appear on the surface. The origins of diapir might be different so that some of them have igneous origins and the others orginate from plaster work or even ice cells. This later phenomenon causes formation of pingo by increased size in polar areas (Sabzei, //75). The most common and ordinary kind of diapirs are saline, namely, salt plugs, the distribution of which is more frequent on the earth.
