The Theoretical and Practical Foundations of Convincing and Persuading

Abstract:
In today's world, persuasion may be referred to as one of the most principal parameters of "soft power" and "social influence", for it is by this means that one can impose their ideas and will upon others and changing their ideas and behaviors, without resorting to force and alluring them. Due to the importance of convincing in social relations, both in terms of interpersonal relationships and ingroup and outgroup relationships, and even in political and diplomatic relations, several models and theories have been presented in relation to this human phenomenon in recent decades. Havland model is one of the earliest and most used one in such models. The reason why this model is important is that it covers the entire elements of a relationship, displaying the features and parameters in each. In addition to the Havland model, some other models have also addressed the argument about convincing and persuading. These models, specially as they have a strong and inclusive research support base, are theoretically and practically richer, from among whose the model of cognitive dissonance and EML are the most famous.
