Comparative study of the cave verse from the viewpoint of Farighin (Sunnites and Shiites)

Author(s):
Abstract:
Sunnite and Shiite interpreters have some commonalities about the cave verse, although the Shiite interpretation is in part far from the Sunnite view. Due to this dispute (especially when related to the issue of caliphate), Sunnite and Shiite scholars have focused on this verse.Sunnites believe that the cave verse represents the high virtue of Ababakr and therefore regard him as one of the selected followers of the holy prophet and use the verse as a proof for his caliphate. But according to Shiite interpretation, there is not only no virtue for him in this verse, but it shows God neglected some people like Ababakr. Apparently Sunnite scholar's presumption and affection for Ababakr as the first caliph have influenced their interpretation about the cave verse. Definitely if Ababakr hadnt been a caliph, their interpretation would have been much different.
