COMPARATIVE ETYMOLOGY OF ADAM'S NAME IN ARABIC AND HEBREW LANGUAGES

Abstract:
This essay is a comparative study about etymology and derivation of Adam's name in modern and ancient religious and literary texts of Jews and Moslems. In a way that it should distinguish whether Adam has been derived from the Hebrew word adāmāh mean dust, dām (i.e. blood) or from other words. Or what else is mentioned in Jewish and Islamic traditions about this issue. Also, what is the resemblance between these tradition taking into account the Semitic languages Arabic and Hebrew? In the current paper, the comparative study is mainly performed between Hebrew and Arabic texts; however, Greek texts are also referred to in some cases.
