A Study of the Effect of Religion-Based Cognitive-Behavior Therapy on Depression in Divorced Women

Aim and Divorce, as one of the most stressful events, leads to some mental and emotional problems, especially in divorced women. The aim of the present research was to study the effectiveness of religion-based cognitive-behavior therapy on depression in divorced women. The research is a quasi-experimental method with pre-post test, fallow-up and control group. The sample consisted of 30 divorced women selected by in-reach sampling and matched by age, educational status, physical health and other criteria considered in this research. They were randomly divided into two groups (n=12) of experimental and control. We administered 12 45-minute weekly sessions of religion-based cognitive- behavior therapy for the experimental group, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The instrument was Beck Depression Inventory II (BDII). The results revealed significant difference between the two groups regarding depression (P<0/001). Also, the rate of depression significantly decreased as compared to pre-test and control group. The results proved that religion-based cognitive-behavior therapy decreases the rate of depression in divorced women.
