The Effects of Classical Iranian Moral Views on Bābā Afzal Kāshāni's Poetry

Abstract:
One of the characteristics of Eastern people and especially of pre-Islamic Iranians is their attention to moral advice for the arrangement of social norms and for the eradication of improper behavior. Abundant moral advice can be seen in written from in religious teachings, in kings′ words and will, in great scholars′ speeches, and even in everyday life accessories such as clothing, table-cloth, dishes, and window shields and so on. This kind of advice has been used commonly for moral virtues. As a literary from advice reached the pinnacle of its development in the Sāsānid period. After Islam. After Islam, it manifested itself in different moral literary works like Kheradnāmeh, Shānāmeh, Ghāboosnāmeh, and Golestān. Bābā Afzal Kāshāni, as a great scholar in mysticism and as a philosopher, was part of this movement. It follows that his ideas are immersed with the Iranian-Islamic culture. This paper discusses some of the Persian origins of his ideas with which not so many are familiar.
