Coexistence of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gout: Case Report and Review of Literature
Gout and rheumatoid arthritis (RÂ) are relatively frequent diseases; however، the coexistence of these two conditions has been rarely reported. The author presents a case that was followed for 20 years as RÂ and gout was also diagnosed based on nodular lesion on feet joints، tap nodules and noticing crystals of uric acid in synovial fluid. Ïn RÂ patients with severe joint swelling، physicians should examine the synovial fluid، especially in elderly RÂ patients suffering from kidney failure or those with lower limbs involvement. Ïn contrast، in gout patients with polyarticular involvement، RÂ should also be considered.
