Role of Ghulat in Introducing Jabir al-Jufi as a Ghali

Jabir bn Yazid al-Jufi (50-128 A.H.) the famous companion of Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq, peace be upon them. In spite of his adherence to the school of the Prophet's Household, peace be upon them, his attention to the inner meaning of verses of the Holy Quran and some hadiths attributed to him made ghulat assume him as their forerunner and remember him as a man who was aware of Infallible Imam's divine knowledge and spiritual status. Ghalis misused his name and character. That is why some know him as a semi-ghali and some explicitly introduce as ghali. Most of these traditions are related from Jabir al-Jufi by Nusayriyyah. But it is now by no means possible to ascertain whether Jabir himself was the author of these traditions or whether these were attached to his name by the later ghulat and were circulated in the Imamate circles.
