The Relationship Between Affective and Cognitive Components of Happiness, and Academic Success

Abstract:
Aim
Since increasing student''s academic success drops out as one of the important goals in universities، so the present study was conducted to determine the association between happiness and academic success.
Method
The survey method is used a sample of five-hundred-thirty students (353 girls، 177 boys) from Shiraz University، who were selected via multi-stage cluster sampling method، completed the positive affect and negative affect scale (PANAS) and satisfaction with life scale (SWLS) and their academic averages were calculated as index of academic success. To determine reliability of measures، cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated and to examine validity، factor analysis method is used.
Results
The results showed acceptable validity and reliability of instruments. Results of simultaneous multiple regressions showed that، affective component of happiness was negative predictor and cognitive component of happiness was positive predictor of academic success.
Conclusion
These results confirmed the research hypothesis about the prediction of academic success by affections and life satisfaction.
