The Effect of Fast on Student's Mental Health

Abstract:
Aim
The authors of the article as the propose and background of their study believe that students as harbingers of society’s future can promote their communities scientifically. On the other hand، educational difficulties affect their mental health. Nonetheless، praying and fulfilling the religious duties can ameliorate the mental problems and promote mental health among the students. In this paper، we have studied the effect of fast on students’ mental health.
Method
This research is semi-empirical and pretest-posttest design with control group. Statistic society of this research is a one-hundred-student group living in dormitory of Razi University educating in 1389-90. We selected 30 people of them randomly and divided them into two fifteen-people groups. One group is considered as control group. Moreover، the students belonged to experience group observed the fast and using GHQ before Ramadan had been tested and after Ramadan were retested again. Then data were analyzed by using covariance analysis.
Results
The results of the survey indicate that fasting improve the mental health among students.
Conclusion
Considering the results، fulfilling religious duties promote the mental health of students.
